The Grow-a-Row program builds on the long-standing tradition of gardeners loving to share their harvest with others. It is a people-helping-people program to assist in feeding the hungry in their own communities.
Since 2013, the Kin Park Youth Urban Farm has been a recipient of seedlings and transplants donated to us from Providence Farm and Dinter Nursery, regular contributors to the Grow-a-Row program. These veggies are grown alongside our own crops and then harvested for the Duncan Basket Society.
Long before the advent of the urban farm, volunteer gardeners in our Kin Park Community Gardens each year tend to several beds that are dedicated exclusively to the Grow-a-Row concept.
CGC encourages other gardeners and farmers in our region to think about planting an extra row or two each growing season to harvest and give to someone less fortunate. It feels so good to share the bounty of healthy, local food!
