Community Seed Saving Workshop

Date:
October 15, 2011 - 9:30am - 4:00pm

Curious about how to save your own seed? Looking to develop varieties more suited to your microclimate? Or perhaps you're wondering whether those seeds you saved 5 years ago are still good...

Join us on Saturday, October 15th at the Mercury Theatre (331 Brae Rd., Duncan) for your chance to answer all those burning questions! From 10:00am until 4:00pm, CGC is pleased to present a day-long intensive workshop, all about saving seeds. This is your chance to really dig deep and find out how to incorporate or improve practices of saving seed within your gardening repertoire.

A range of topics will be covered, including:

  • organic methods
  • planting for diversity
  • roguing
  • isolation distances
  • inbreeders vs. outbreeders
  • annuals and biennials
  • harvesting
  • winnowing
  • threshing
  • storage

Delivering the keynote address will be Dan Jason, owner of Salt Spring Seeds and President of The Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada.

Cost for attending is $30 for CGC members and $35 for non-members. Coffee and tea will be provided. For more information or to buy tickets, contact 250-748-8506 or debra [at] cowichangreencommunity [dot] org.
