Community Seed Bank and Seed Library

Duncan Seedy Sunday may have come and gone, but with the Cowichan Incubator Seed Farm continuing to grow, seeds will be a year round pursuit for CGC!

In addition to all the educational and training programming to be expected down the road at the farm, we will also become home to the Cowichan’s first Community Seed Bank. Preserving, improving, and sharing an array of locally-adapted and culturally significant seeds will be the mission of the seed bank. We’re currently seeking out any unique and interesting varieties of vegetables that you may have been growing for decades, or were passed to you with exciting story to boot.

While we build up our seed bank, we’ll be launching the public branch of the project with the Cowichan Seed Library. Through the library, we’ll make seeds available to interested growers for little or no cost, and encourage everyone to grow the crops, returning some seed at the end of the season to perpetuate the library. Not only will our seeds find their way into numerous gardens through this program, but the collective community stewardship of CGC Seeds-minour seed supply will begin.

Keep an eye out for more info about the Community Seed Bank and Seed Library on the website and through our social media accounts. Or drop by the Garden Pantry Store later in the month to find some seeds that are right for you.
