Cowichan Green Community is pleased to announce the 11th annual Duncan Seedy Sunday!

 

On March 17th, 2019, this family- friendly event will be taking place at the Cowichan Tribes Si’em Lelum Gymnasium (5574 River Road, Duncan, BC).

An event for local gardeners to swap seeds, and purchase locally grown and ecologically sound seeds, plant starts, and perennials.

Also featuring kids activities, a series of workshops throughout the day (see schedule below), and a variety of food vendors.

Admission is $2/person, at the door. CGC members and children under the age of 13 are free.

Vendor Registration is open until 4 PM on March 15th, 2019.

10:15am: Ted Leishchner, “Pollinator Conservation”

12:15pm: Dan Jason, “Adapting to Climate Change”

Join Dan Jason for his talk on Adapting to Climate Change. Dan Jason has owned and operated Salt Spring Seeds for the past 32 years and has been the president of the Salt Spring Seed Sanctuary for the past 17 years. He has written over a dozen books on organic and sustainable agriculture. In his presentation on Adapting to Climate Change, he will be focussing on his last three books, namely Awesome Ancient Seeds and Grains, The Power of Pulses and Some Useful Wild Plants. He will be talking about some of the crops in these books in the context of climate change and also what we can do as communities to change the climate on the earth to a more earth friendly one.

1:15pm: Todd Carnahan, “Gardening with Native Plants”

Author of Gardening With Native Plants biologist Todd Carnahan has planted over 50k trees and shrubs since 1996. Specializing in drought tolerant species that enhance functional landscapes for birds and pollinators, Todd will highlight the top fifty native plants for your South Island property. Need a specific vine, groundcover, shrub or tree for your land? Ask Todd during this native gardening workshop from 1:15 to 2pm. Topics to be covered include: food production, mulching, irrigation, transplanting, deterring pests, and creating naturalistic species combinations. Comprehensive guides available for sale after the event.
