Where Community and Environment Meet
Here are two great ways to help out.
Become a Member Donate
The Cowichan Green Community (CGC) began in 2001 as an environmental-based community outreach project to help people identify environmental problems within their own homes. Our focus has ranged from indoor and outdoor air quality, healthy housing, healthy baby programs and climate change workshops to our recent initiatives: food security and environmental sustainability.
Since 2001, the CGC and it's membership have both grown significantly. In addition to a host of projects and programs, the CGC offers a variety of resources to the community including a lending library, educational workshops and a meeting and gathering space at our new office at 181 Station St. The CGC Green Store also offers a selection of locally made and sustainably-minded products for sale, as well as many free informative pamphlets and resources to aid people in living more sustainably.
The majority of the CGC's current projects are focused on promoting food security in the Cowichan Valley. Food security exists when all members of our community have access to enough nutritious, safe, ecologically sustainable and culturally appropriate food at all times. Currently our community is not food secure. Cowichan Green Community is working with community groups, local farmers and the public to help dramatically improve this situation.
Membership
A great way to help the Cowichan Valley and the Cowichan Green Community is by getting involved and becoming a member of the CGC. Members have access to our lending library and receive 10% off items in our Green Store. Additionally, members get to vote for board members and help define how CGC operates.
Volunteer
Another great way to help us out is by volunteering. If you would like to volunteer, please fill out this form. There are a number of projects, events and tasks that you could help us out with. Some of these projects include:
Volunteering is a great way to be a part of the CGC's group effort. Not only will you learn how to live more sustainably, but you will also have a great time with like minded people that truly appreciate your efforts.
Donate
We are always on the lookout for funding and welcome both monetary and in-kind donations. Your donation will be used to bring the benefits of our programs to the widest audience possible, so that we can benefit as many people as possible.
