CGC Launches New Agriculture Training Program

The Cowichan Green Community is thrilled to launch the Cowichan Agriculture Training program in April, 2015!

This innovative one year program will provide participants with the opportunity to learn a wide spectrum of ecological agriculture skills and approaches from the soil up. Over the course of the program they will experience hands on training as well as class time learning about soil and plant biology, water and pest management, seed harvesting and saving, best farm practices, animal care and husbandry, and much more. Interns will also be engaged in local farm placements, which will give them a chance to put their skills into practice while providing support to and learning from our hard working local farmers. Participants will receive a stipend of $300/wk for the duration of the program.

The following certifications will be earned through this program:

Organic Master Gardener (Gaia College)IMG_0872

FoodSafe
Standard First Aid
Canadian Association of Rainwater Management Certification

Plus they will develop strong essential life skills around personal and team wellness as well as resume, e-portfolio, and job creation techniques. The program started on April 22nd and we still have a few spots left. If you are or know anyone that is EI eligible or that was recently on EI, get in touch with us for more information!
