The Cowichan Lake Community Garden project has come so far in the past six months and is almost ready for the grand opening later in April 2015. What was once a mound of soil on the edge of a parking lot, is now a flourishing community garden where sweat and love have been shared in building this new community gathering space.
The garden will have 8 raised garden beds (more to come in the future!), a small orchard, tool shed, herb garden, compost bins, all fully fenced and ready for community gardeners to share their knowledge and joy of growing food together. Come out and see the community’s work, the garden is located behind the ball diamond at the Lake Cowichan Sports Complex on South Shore Road.
Thanks go out to the Town of Lake Cowichan and Councillor Bob Day for his vision, to the community businesses and volunteers for their dedication and hard work in building the garden, to Island Health for their financial support, and to our staff person Erin Ward for her design and leadership on the project these past six months.
