Bart McNeill grew up on lemon groves and avocado orchards in Southern California where his father owned an orchard management company and was a pioneer in the (then) new field of low-volume, low-pressure (drip) irrigation. In his teens and 20’s Bart began installing and later designing irrigation systems for hundreds of acres of agricultural, commercial and residential projects.
In the mid 1980’s he became fascinated with the high-tech greenhouses of the Dutch flower growers in his community and began the process of designing a passive solar greenhouse system. In 1987 he moved his young family to Victoria and purchased a landscape nursery producing hanging baskets and bedding plants. It was during these years that propagation and composting became passions he has pursued ever since.
After a foray into the world of computer consulting, Bart returned to horticulture as a landscape design and construction contractor, where he moved more and more toward natural growing methods and was introduced to the ideas of Permaculture and Biodynamics
Now retired, Bart is happy to share his 40 plus years of hands-on experience with irrigation, composting, propagation and other horticultural practices and to introduce people to healthier and more efficient methods of growing.
