Cowichan Green Community’s Youth Outreach Team, known as the YO Team, have been working hard supporting the Cowichan community in various means; primarily through the KinPark Family Drop-in. As funding for their group honorarium is coming to an end this July, they are creating various fundraisers.
For their first fundraiser, they have been creating hand-made candy grams full of chocolate fruit and nut balls, candied ginger and other healthy treats to sell in the Garden Pantry Store February 9th – 13th for Valentine’s Day. Selling them for $5 each, they hope to raise some funds to keep their group running.
The group consists of 8 youth between the ages of 17 – 30, and have been active members in the valley since 2014. Each member has gifts and talents they showcase to their community members, such as science workshops, craft teachings, and cooking and baking skills. Being on the team also gives youth opportunities to utilize their skills, discover their strengths, and build their confidence. All of them are the brain behind the KinPark Family Drop-in as they are the ones who plan and brainstorm for the programming. They assist with cooking classes, engaging with families, children and other fellow youth, farming at KinPark, planning events, and have even helped during KinPark Kid’s Camp in the summer of 2014 and 2015. Local community members truly benefit from their enthusiasm, strengths, skills, and caring attitude. The YO Team would love your support, so they can continue to be active superheroes in their community.
