After an incredible summer running KinPark Kid’s Camp, our KinPark Family Drop-in is coming back with more cooking classes, fun farm activities, and after school drop-ins! We are very excited to see returning families and meet new faces.

As we roll out our fall schedule, we will also be wishing a farewell to our incredible team member, Lisa Hanlon, who is now starting a new adventure as a grade 10 science teacher at Cowichan Secondary! Lisa was an integral part of our family drop-in, and without her the drop-in would not have sprung to life! She will be greatly missed by CGC staff, and of course all of the children, youth, and families who had the pleasure of working with her. We all wish her the best of luck with her future teaching endeavors!

To kick off our family cooking classes, we are going to make some fall favorites such as pumpkin tarts, and warm comforting soups. We will also be showing different uses of squash. Who would have thought you could turn tromboncino squash into noodles? These recipes will of course feature local ingredients from KinPark Youth Urban Farm. To find out more or to register for a class, call Alyssa at 250-748-8506, join our Facebook group “Cowichan Family Cooking!”, or visit our website (see link below). These classes are free, for kids 5+. Bring your family and a container!

We won’t just be busy in the kitchen, but busy in the gardens as well at KinPark Youth Urban Farm! On Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30AM – 11:30AM we will be running drop-ins for children, youth and families to join us in the fun of farming. This drop-in time is also great for homeschoolers as they have the opportunity to learn about growing food, maintaining a farm, and of course connecting with other youth and children alike. Folks are also welcome to drop-in to our Wednesday after school programs from 1:00PM – 5:00PM where everyone can share laughs, play games, get crafty, and participate in fun activities. Snacks will also be provided during our Wednesday drop-in times.
