Harvest more.
Waste less.

It’s simple: we pick and we share.

While Vancouver Island imports 95% of its food, our region grows an abundance of fruit that often goes unpicked. Every year in the Cowichan Region, trees overflow with fresh fruit, much of it left to fall. FruitSave connects volunteer pickers with local tree owners to harvest fruit that might otherwise go to waste. It’s simple: we pick and we share. Fruit is divided between homeowners, volunteers, and local organizations, including food banks and school meal programs.

Why FruitSave works
for everyone

Connecting volunteer pickers with local tree owners
  • Reduces food waste by making use of the fruit that would otherwise go unharvested.
  • Supports homeowners with free help picking fruit and maintaining their yards—while contributing to local food access.
  • Provides fresh, nutritious fruit to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.
  • Builds connection by bringing neighbours together through simple, meaningful action.
  • Strengthens food literacy and promotes sustainable, community-based food systems.
  • Benefits volunteers with fresh air, light exercise, community connection—and a share of the harvest.
  • Fuels the community with donations of fresh fruit to emergency food providers and local initiatives.
